NMAT 2014: to Retake or not to Retake?

Ever since NMIMS declared its Window 1 Results (click here to access the results), we have been flooded with the following two questions: Which NMIMS campus can I get an inteview call from? Should I go for a retake? Obviously the answer to these questions is in trying to predict the cutoff that NMIMS would have for its various programs. So let us first have a look at the cutoffs in the last two years. Cut off for NMAT 2011 & NMAT 2012 Section NMAT 2011 FT MBA NMAT 2012 FT MBA* NMAT 2012 FT MBA Pharma NMAT 2012 PGDM Hyd/Blr Quantitative Skills 78 74 50 70 Language Skills 55 55 50 55 Logical Reasoning 65 61 50 55 Overall 210 208 169 200 * FT MBA Programme, MBA Banking, MBA Capital Market and MBA HR What about NMAT 2014? This NMAT 2014 cut off will obviously be impacted by the paper structure, difficulty level, the number of seats in each program, the number of applicants and also the seats to interview calls ratio. While the structure and the difficulty level of the paper have not changed in the last two years, the number of seats in FT MBA Mumbai has increased from 300 to 360. However there is also an increase in the number of applicants. Hence I would assume that the cut offs this year will not be...

IRMA 2013-15 Paper: Questions and Answers – English Comprehension

After the questions of Issues of Social Concern, here comes the English Section update of the IRMA 2013-15 paper. Hope you have a good time this Diwali. Happy Learning. IRMA 2013-15 English Comprehension  Cloze Test (Questions 1 – 15) The task force on Direct Transfer of Subsidies on Kerosene, LPG and Fertilizers headed by Nandan Nilekani, Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has done a commendable job of spelling out the mechanics of the transition from today’s leaky subsidy regime to a system of direct cash subsidies . However, that does not really fix the problem. It must be noted that the mandate of the task force, and what it has delivered, is only the design of the plumbing. The success or otherwise of direct cash transfers depends on much more. It depends critically on proper identification of the beneficiaries; an issue that is beyond the jurisdiction of the task force and falls squarely in the government’s domain. The operationalization of Aadhar, the Unique Identification Number, will make it possible to link entitlements to targeted beneficiaries. But it will not ensure beneficiaries have been correctly identified. Thus the old problem of proper identification that bedevils the present system will continue. If this is to be addressed state governments must get serious about identifying the needy, even if it means taking on vested interests that have undeservedly...
