Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad conducted its entrance test –MICAT for admission to its 2 Year Post Graduate Diploma in Management Communications on 3rd March 2013. There was not much difference in the structure of the exam as compared to previous years. MICAT was on expected lines. The test was divided into two sections.
Section I had four descriptive questions. The time given for this section was 35 minutes and there was no negative marking for these questions. For the first three questions, the topic given was ‘Facebook is leading today’s youth astray’. In the first and the second question, 5 points each had to be written in favor and against the topic. In the third question, an essay of 200 words had to be written either in favor or against the given topic. The instructions of the question clearly stated that ‘no marks would be awarded for a neutral viewpoint’. The Story Writing question had 9 different pictures- a zebra, a flower, the Red Fort, pulses, a caricature of a book reading caterpillar, a pink dress, a tree house, a set of playing blocks, and a bed. The students had to create a story by linking those pictures. All the pictures were to be used.
Section II was divided into three parts. The time allotted for this section was 90 minutes.
Part I – Psychometric Test
Part I, which was a psychometric test, had no negative marking. It was compulsory to attempt all the questions in this part. The instruction sheet clearly said that failure to attempt all the questions in this part would lead to disqualification.
There were three kinds of questions. The first set of questions had 30 statements out of which one had to pick 10 describing one’s personality traits without ranking them. The second set of question asked one to choose from a set of two arguments and also to rate them in accordance with one’s personality traits. In the third set of questions, one had to rank the various responses under given situations on a scale of 1 to 6 (where a rating of 1 implied highest priority and a rating of 6 meant least priority).
Part II – Reasoning and Verbal Ability
Part II had 35 questions based on Visual Reasoning, Data Sufficiency, Statement – Conclusion and Word Combinations. These were of moderate level of difficulty. The penalty for incorrect answers was 25% of the marks allotted to the question.
Part III – General Knowledge
Part III had 25 questions on general awareness. Majority of the questions were based on advertising, marketing, films and media. The level of difficulty of this section was moderate-tough. The penalty for incorrect answers was 25% of the marks allotted to the question.
